Communicationeffectiveness and stimulating work can either lead to success orfailure of a virtual team. Communication should be simple, clear,precise and to-the-point to ensure messages are relayed effectively.Ambiguity leads to failure. The working atmosphere for virtual teamsshould be stimulating and challenging lest they will lose inspirationleading to failure.
Thereare four major attributes that lead to the success of virtual teamsincluding work team structure, diversity, creativity and workprocess. Regarding diversity, the group members utilize their uniquecharacteristics to ensure that they effectively function in a group.The members can achieve this by using one or more of the basic stylesnamely: contributor, collaborator, challenger, and communicator.Creativity enables the group members to share their different ideasand come up with a solution or a new finding. Diversity has beengreatly attributed to creativity in virtual teams. A well laid downwork team structure consisting of goals and objectives, performancemeasures, allocation of roles and operating guidelines is a keysuccess. The most important dimensions of team work process includemanagement of competitive and cooperative behavior that leads to taskaccomplishment (Nelson, Armstrong, & Condie, p 146, 2012).
Lossof individuality, social loafing and dissimilarity are some of thefactors that lead to failure of a virtual team. Loss of individualitywhen individual group members lose the sense of self-awareness,responsibility for one’s behavior, inhibition, and accountability.Social loafing is a common phenomenon in groups where a group memberdoes not actively participate hence dragging the group. Dissimilarityis one of the factors that lead to failure of the group. Demographicand racial dissimilarity have been attributed to negativecontribution towards the achievement of team’s objectives (Nelson,Armstrong, & Condie, p 136, 2012).
Characteristicsof a well-functioning effective group greatly overlap the attributes.One of the characteristics is that the members freely express theirfeelings and ideas and this can lead to creativity. The arguments arecentered on ideas, and members are aware of their operation andfunction which strongly supports team work process. Making decisionsthrough a consensus is a broad move that overlaps the attributessince it builds on embracing diversity and focusing on theaccomplishment of tasks and objectives (Nelson, Armstrong, &Condie, p 147, 2012).
Culturaldiversity can have positive and negative impacts in an organization.On the positive side, it can increase productivity as a larger marketis supplied with goods and services as well as broader ideas areembraced. On the negative side, it can bring uncertainty, confusionand complexity leading to the group failing to achieve fullproductivity.

This is because theevaluation largely focusses on key factors that can lead to successor failure of an organization. It further seeks to strengthen theseattributes and overcome the weaknesses to achieve maximumproductivity and meet the goals. With enhancing communication andensuring that members are familiar and work towards the objectives,company’s success is assured (Nelson, Armstrong, & Condie,2012).
