ADDICTION STUDIES 3

Hector`s case is inconsistent with disease model of addiction sinceits source of origin is not biologically, neurologically, geneticallyor environmentally connected. Moreover, the use the hazardoussubstances had not affected the functioning of his body or his brain(Miller, 2013). In the case of Hector, the addiction is not a diseasesince he could get better without treatment. He just needs to improveon a particular aspect of life such as when to study withoutprocrastinating.

Hector`s case seems consistent with social learning theory since herequired direct reinforcement hence his study occurred even in theabsence of motor reproduction. For instance, Hector placed moreemphasis on crucial roles of diverse internal processes whenlearning. Another model of addiction that fits in Hector`s case isthe educational model since he seems to lack accurate informationabout the dangers of postponing the study until the day before atest. Although the strategy worked well in high school, he seemed notto understand the risks associated with such habits thus subsequentaddiction development(Harari &amp Legge, 2001).&nbsp

I agree there is need to close the gap between predetermined studytime of Hector and the enacted time of the study. By so doing, procrastination that is easily distracted by the present of otherfactors will be minimal. Unlike medical diseases that pinpoint acertain germ as the causes of disease, addiction requires properunderstanding of the causes and practically applying the severalmodels. Therefore, since there is no certainty about what causes theaddiction, each person need to determine the most appropriate modelthat can lead to successful recovery.
